How the Motability Scheme Works

It's easy with Motability! You choose the car, We do the rest.

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, getting a new car is easier and more affordable than ever. Through Motability, you can turn part or all of your allowance into the car of your choice.

Step1: Choose a car online or by visiting our showroom.

Step 2: Order your car.

Step3: Pick up your New car.

The only condition is that you have at least 12 months award remaining. There are no credit checks or other restrictions. There are options to buy new or used vehicles, but the most popular scheme is the Motability 3 year Contract Hire.

Even if you do not drive, you can still obtain a vehicle and choose up to two other people to drive for you. If you are a parent or carer to a child who receives the allowance, you can apply too. If you are a relative or carer to someone who claims the allowance (recognised by the DWP as an appointee), you can apply on their behalf.Choose from two ways of getting a car: Contract hire or Hire purchase.

• Insurance and personal accident cover for named drivers and passengers.
• Servicing and maintenance by us your motability dealer.
• Full breakdown assistance from the RAC.
• Annual tax disc sent directly to your home (expect Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man).
• 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 years.
• Free replacement tyres fitted.
• Window or windscreen replacement at no extra cost.
• One-stop customer helpline.
• Help with transport (where possible) when your car is being servoced or repaired.

Our worry-free policy continue right to the end of your 3 year contract with a seamless transfer to your new car.

 You might prefer Hire Purchase if you:

• Require expensive vehicles or adaptations.
• Plan to cover high mileage in your car.
• Want to own a car and use the motability allowance to pay for it.

With Hire Purchase, you will also be responsible for organising and paying for comprehensive insurance, breakdown recovery, car tax and servicing and repairs.

The benefits of Motability

In addition to having a brand new car there are other benefits too: Included in the Motability Contract Hire, at no extra cost, is a Mileage allowance of 20,000 per year, Road tax, Fully comprehensive insurance for up to two drivers, Full RAC cover, All servicing, warranty work and MOT, Tyres (worn or punctured) will be repaired or replaced and windscreens (that are chipped or cracked) will be repaired or replaced.

As you can see the scheme offers excellent value for money, all this in exchange for your higher rate mobility allowance. Many cars have nothing extra to pay (including some automatics*). On larger or more expensive vehicles an advance payment may also be required. The advance payments start from as little as £50*

How much Does it Cost?

Contract Hire: One regular affordable payment

Paying for your motability car - Contract Hire offers worry-free motoring and the convenience of a single, regular payment - no wonder 95% of our customers choose this way to pay for their new car, It's easy too. Simply by transferring your allowence to us, you get a brand new car as well as insurance, maintenance, breakdown cover and more.

 To give you even more choice we also have a wide range of specification options. If the cost of the car you have chosen is higher than your full allowence can cover, you will need to pay the difference as an advanced payment at the start of the agreement.

But some smaller, less expensive cars don't require the whole of your allowence to be used. In this case, you'll continue to receive the rest of your allowance as normal. If your allowance increases during the agreement, you'll also receive the increase.

Please note: If you choose a Contract Hire car package you must have at least 12 months award length remaining.

Hire Purchase:

If you would prefer to buy your own car you may be interested in the Motability Hire Purchase (HP) scheme.

Please note: If you choose to buy a car with a HP agreement, it is normally expected that you will be receiving the allowance for the full length of the agreement.
